It is finally here. After years of anticipation, construction delays and countless “when will it open” searches — Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is officially operational. The airport, now managed by Adani Airports, opened its doors to commercial passengers on December 25, 2025 and has been growing at a breathtaking pace ever since.
If you live in Navi Mumbai, this changes everything. Your days of battling Mumbai traffic to reach Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) are over — or at least significantly reduced. Here is everything you need to know about flying from NMIA in 2026.
NMIA — The Big Numbers Right Now
Before we dive into the details, here is how far NMIA has come in just a few months of operations:

Since its inception, NMIA has witnessed remarkable growth, increasing from handling approximately 5,000 passengers daily in December 2025 to now accommodating over 22,000 passengers and nearly 160 flight movements every day.
NMIA is operated by Adani Airports Holdings under a public-private partnership model. Adani Airports Holdings owns 74 percent of the project, while CIDCO holds the remaining 26 percent.
The airport’s official IATA code is NMI and ICAO code is VANM. Its full official name is D.B. Patil International Airport, named after Maharashtra farmer-leader Dinkar Balu Patil.
Location: Uran, Raigad District — approximately 35 km south of central Mumbai.
Currently 3 major airlines operate from NMIA, with more expected to join as the airport expands:

IndiGo (6E) — Largest Operator
IndiGo has launched services to 13 destinations from the new airport, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Cochin, Delhi, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Nagpur, Goa Mopa, Jaipur, Chennai, Coimbatore, and Vadodara.

Delhi leads with the largest share of nine daily departures, followed by seven departures to Goa and six to Bengaluru.

NMIA is currently offering free parking at the terminal for a limited period as part of its launch phase. This is a significant benefit — take advantage of it while it lasts.
Important: Free parking is a promotional offer and may change. Always check the official website at navimumbai.adaniairports.com before visiting.
For those who prefer the convenience of valet, NMIA offers valet parking at just ₹600 for 24 hours — an extremely competitive rate compared to Mumbai airport.

Travel times to NMIA:
Several app-based cab services now offer direct NMIA routes. Passengers from Vashi report paying approximately ₹400-500 for an Ola/Uber to the airport.
The Navi Mumbai Metro is under construction and will eventually connect the airport directly to Vashi, Kharghar and other parts of the city. This is expected to launch in 2026-27.
The Mumbai-Pune Expressway connects directly into the NMIA catchment via Khalapur and Panvel — often saving 25-30 minutes versus travelling to BOM from Pune.
For NMI from Vashi, budget roughly 90 minutes before a domestic flight for comfortable check-in. From CST via Atal Setu off-peak, about 2 hours 15 minutes. From Pune, 4-4.5 hours.
Work on the second runway at NMIA is currently underway, while plans for a third runway have already been initiated. With the addition of the third runway, the airport’s total annual passenger handling capacity is expected to reach around 13.5 crore, significantly boosting its ability to manage future air traffic.
