Kharghar Daud Adda — 2nd Edition: Running in the Drizzle, 3 km Through Central Park & Why You Should Join Next Sunday

Reading Time: 5 minutes

Sunday. 6 AM. Pre-monsoon clouds hanging low over Kharghar. A light drizzle in the air. And a group of runners gathering at the start line that reads: “The Start Line Awaits. Your Adventure Begins Now.”

This was the Kharghar Daud Adda — 2nd Edition. And it was exactly the kind of morning that reminds you why you live in this city.

What is Kharghar Daud Adda?

Kharghar Daud Adda (@kharghardaudadda on Instagram) is Kharghar’s own community running group — bringing together runners of all levels, every Sunday morning, for a shared run through one of the most beautiful green spaces in Navi Mumbai.

The name says it all — Daud means run, Adda means the place where people gather. This is exactly that. A gathering of Kharghar residents who choose to spend their Sunday mornings moving rather than sleeping in. A community built one kilometre at a time.

The 2nd Edition happened this Sunday — and the weather conspired to make it unforgettable.

The Morning — What Happened

We arrived at the starting point to find the Daud Adda banner already up — green, bold and energetic. The kind of sign that makes you feel like something real is happening.

The group assembled. Different ages, different fitness levels, different running backgrounds — some seasoned runners who do this every week, some first-timers who showed up nervously in fresh running shoes. All of them here because of a simple shared decision: to run.

Before the run began, the group went through a proper warm-up session — dynamic stretches, light movement, getting the body ready. Orange cones marked the space. The organiser walked the group through the routine with the kind of energy that makes warming up feel less like a chore and more like the beginning of something.

Two distances were on offer:

  • 3 km — for beginners and those returning to running
  • 6 km — for the more experienced runners

The Run — 3 km Through Kharghar’s Best Roads

And then we ran.

The route wound through the wide, tree-lined roads around Central Park Kharghar — one of the most beautiful running environments in all of Navi Mumbai. The roads were quiet in that specific Sunday morning way that only early risers get to experience. The trees on both sides were greener than they had been in months — responding to the first pre-monsoon moisture in the air.

The sky was doing something extraordinary. Thick monsoon clouds — the kind that have been building over Navi Mumbai all week — sat low and dramatic overhead. Not quite raining. Just drizzling. That perfect running weather where the air is cool, the ground is slightly damp and your body temperature stays exactly where you want it.

The 3 km route (tracked on Google Fit — 3.01 km, 29 minutes 23 seconds) circled the green lung of Kharghar — past the wetlands visible on the map, around the park perimeter, through roads where the Kharghar hills are visible in the background.

Running with others changes how you run. You find a pace you might not find alone. You push slightly further than you would have. And somewhere around the 2 km mark — when the drizzle picked up slightly and the clouds opened just enough to feel the rain without it being a downpour — the whole group seemed to hit that specific stride where running stops feeling like exercise and starts feeling like the best possible way to spend a Sunday morning.

After the Run — Cool Down & Group Activity

The run finished. But Daud Adda was not done.

A proper cool down followed — stretches, breathing, bringing the heart rate down. And then — something that made this more than just a run — a group activity. The circle of runners, still catching their breath, laughing, talking, doing something together.

This is the part that matters. The run is individual. The community is collective. Daud Adda understands the difference and builds both deliberately.

Why Running — Especially Now, Before Monsoon

There is no better time to start running in Navi Mumbai than right now.

The brutal May heat has broken. The monsoon is at the doorstep — IMD forecasts rain arriving in the first week of June. The pre-monsoon weather that Kharghar is experiencing right now — cool mornings, dramatic clouds, light drizzle — is arguably the most pleasant running weather of the entire year.

What running does for you:

Physically:

→ Burns 300-600 calories per hour
→ Strengthens heart and lungs
→ Improves bone density
→ Builds leg and core strength
→ Better sleep quality
→ Improved immune system
→ Weight management
→ Lowers blood pressure

Mentally:

→ Releases endorphins —
  the "runner's high" is real
→ Reduces stress and anxiety
→ Improves focus and concentration
→ Builds mental resilience
→ Creates sense of achievement
→ Community connection
→ Better mood throughout the day
→ Proven antidepressant effect

The monsoon advantage: Running in pre-monsoon and monsoon weather has specific benefits beyond the usual. The cool temperature means you can run longer and harder without overheating. The rain (when light) acts as natural cooling. The greenery exploding around you makes the environment genuinely beautiful. And there is something about rain that silences the mental noise — running in a drizzle is meditative in a way that dry-weather running rarely is.

The Route — Where Daud Adda Runs

The 3 km route circles Central Park Kharghar — using the wide, tree-lined roads that make Kharghar one of the best planned running environments in Navi Mumbai. The route is:

→ Flat to gently rolling —
  suitable for beginners
→ Traffic is minimal
  at Sunday morning hours
→ Wide roads with footpaths
→ Beautiful green canopy
→ Hills visible in the background
→ Central Park and wetlands alongside

The 6 km route extends this loop further — giving more experienced runners a proper challenge while staying within the same beautiful green environment.

Every Sunday — Join the Next Edition

This is what makes Kharghar Daud Adda genuinely exciting: it is building something.

Every Sunday. A new edition. A growing community. More runners joining each week. And with the monsoon about to arrive — the coming Sundays promise to be some of the most spectacular running mornings Kharghar has seen.

Imagine running through the same tree-lined roads, but with proper monsoon rain. The hills green and misty. The roads clean and cool. The clouds low and dramatic. The whole city smelling of earth and rain.

That is what the next few Sundays of Daud Adda promise.

A Personal Note

I ran the 3 km today. It was my first run with this group.

The drizzle started just as we hit our stride. The clouds were doing something beautiful overhead. The roads were quiet. The group around me was a mix of serious runners and people like me — showing up, trying, enjoying it more than expected.

Post-run, standing in a circle doing cool-down stretches with strangers who felt like neighbours — because they are neighbours, all of us from the same planned city that was built for exactly this kind of community — I understood what Daud Adda is actually building.

Not just a running group. A reason to show up on Sunday mornings. A community that moves together. A piece of Kharghar’s identity that is still being written.

See you next Sunday.
