The Navi Mumbai Metro is no longer a promise on a hoarding. Since November 2023, Line 1 has been running daily across 11 stations — connecting CBD Belapur to Pendhar (Taloja) in under 25 minutes. I have personally travelled on this line, from Amandoot to CBD Belapur, and the difference it makes for residents of Sectors 30–36 and Taloja is significant.
This guide covers everything you need — stations, fares, timings, parking, and who benefits most from using the metro.
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Operator | CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation) |
| Line | Line 1 — Belapur to Pendhar |
| Total Length | 11.10 km |
| Total Stations | 11 (all operational) |
| Type | Fully elevated — no underground sections |
| Launched | November 17, 2023 |
| Status | Fully operational |
| Daily Ridership | 80,000+ commuters |
Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 is the first and currently only operational metro line in Navi Mumbai. It is fully elevated — meaning no underground tunnels — and runs from the commercial hub of CBD Belapur all the way to Pendhar in Taloja. The entire corridor was built to ease congestion on Sion-Panvel Highway and the internal roads of Kharghar.
It is also worth noting that Navi Mumbai Metro became the first metro line in Maharashtra to earn all three ISO certifications (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001) within its first year of service.
The metro runs from south to north — CBD Belapur at one end, Pendhar at the other.
| # | Station Name | Area / Node |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Belapur Terminal | CBD Belapur |
| 2 | RBI Colony | CBD Belapur |
| 3 | Belpada | Kharghar |
| 4 | Utsav Chowk | Kharghar |
| 5 | Kendriya Vihar | Kharghar |
| 6 | Kharghar Village | Kharghar |
| 7 | Central Park | Kharghar |
| 8 | Pethpada | Kharghar |
| 9 | Amandoot | Kharghar / Taloja border |
| 10 | Pethali-Taloja | Taloja |
| 11 | Pendhar | Taloja / Pendhar |
Stations I personally know well: Amandoot, Central Park, and Pendhar. The Central Park station is the most useful for Kharghar residents — it puts you right next to the park and the surrounding sectors. Amandoot serves the Sectors 35–36 and Taloja border well.
Navi Mumbai Metro fares were revised downward in September 2024 — a 33% reduction to encourage ridership. Fares are now among the most affordable metro rates in India.
| Distance | Fare (Token) | Smart Card (10% off) |
|---|---|---|
| Short (0–3 km) | ₹10 | ₹9 |
| Medium | ₹20 | ₹18 |
| Medium-Long | ₹30 | ₹27 |
| Full journey (Belapur–Pendhar, 11 km) | ₹40 | ₹36 |
Local tip: A full end-to-end journey from Belapur to Pendhar costs just ₹40. An auto for the same distance would cost ₹150–200 minimum. The metro is not just faster — it is significantly cheaper.
Smart Card: NCMC (National Common Mobility Card) is accepted. Get one for 10% discount on every ride. Available at station counters.
WhatsApp Ticketing: You can buy tickets on WhatsApp — send a message to 86526 35500 before you reach the station. Your ticket will be on your screen by the time you reach the security check. No queue, no token.
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| First Train | 6:00 AM (from both ends) |
| Last Train | 10:00 PM (from both ends) |
| Days | Daily — 7 days a week |
| Peak Hours Frequency | Every 10 minutes (7–10 AM and 5–8 PM) |
| Non-Peak Frequency | Every 15 minutes |
| End-to-End Travel Time | 20–25 minutes |
The metro runs every day including Sundays and public holidays. During morning and evening rush hours, frequency increases to every 10 minutes — so the wait is never long.
Note: Commuters have submitted a memorandum to CIDCO requesting the first train to start at 5:00 AM and last train to run until midnight. This may be implemented in a future schedule update.
Parking is available at all 11 metro stations — both two-wheelers and cars. This is a major advantage for residents of areas not directly on the metro line.
Park and Ride strategy:
This is particularly useful for office-goers travelling to CBD Belapur from Taloja and Pendhar areas.
Three ways to buy tickets:
1 — Token at Station Counter
2 — Smart Card (NCMC)
3 — WhatsApp Ticket
The most important connectivity point on Line 1:
CBD Belapur (Belapur Terminal station):
This makes the metro a genuine first-mile connector for thousands of daily commuters. Someone living near Amandoot or Central Park can now take the metro to Belapur and connect directly to the local train — avoiding autos, traffic, and the unpredictability of the highway.
Having used this line myself, the people who gain the most are:
Residents of Sectors 30–36, Kharghar: These sectors are far from Kharghar station and were previously auto-dependent for every trip. The metro now gives them a fixed, reliable, AC option to reach CBD Belapur in minutes.
Taloja and Pendhar residents: This was the most underserved area for public transport. Pendhar station now connects an entire belt of affordable housing to the CBD in under 25 minutes.
Office-goers in CBD Belapur: The Belapur Terminal station puts you within walking distance of the entire commercial district — Arenja Complex, NRI Complex, Sector 11 offices.
Weekend visitors to Central Park: Instead of hunting for parking near Central Park on a Sunday — which is a genuine problem — take the metro to Central Park station. Direct access, no parking stress.
Line 1 is only the beginning. CIDCO has planned an extensive metro network for Navi Mumbai. Upcoming lines will include:
| Future Line | Route | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Airport Extension | Belapur → NMIA (Navi Mumbai International Airport) | Planned |
| Ulwe Connector | Connecting Ulwe node | Planned |
| Vashi Integration | Metro connectivity to Vashi | Planned |
| Mumbai Metro Line 2 connection | Integration with Mumbai Metro network | Future |
Once the airport line is operational, the Navi Mumbai Metro will become one of the most strategically important transit corridors in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
