Ganeshotsav 2026 is in full swing across Navi Mumbai — Bappa arrived on September 14, and the city builds toward its biggest immersion day on September 25, Anant Chaturdashi. Where you immerse depends on which civic body covers your node: most of Navi Mumbai falls under NMMC, but Panvel now runs its own arrangements under the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) — a distinction worth knowing before you head out.
| Visarjan Day | Date (2026) |
|---|---|
| 1.5-Day Visarjan | Tuesday, Sept 15 |
| 3-Day Visarjan | Wednesday, Sept 16 |
| 5-Day Visarjan | Friday, Sept 18 |
| 7-Day Visarjan | Sunday, Sept 20 |
| Anant Chaturdashi (Final/Main) | Friday, Sept 25 |
Anant Chaturdashi is the big one — this is when the majority of sarvajanik (public) mandal idols go, and when roads near immersion points get genuinely crowded, in both NMMC and PMC areas.
Following a court directive that idols up to six feet must be immersed only in artificial ponds (not natural water bodies), NMMC has built 170 artificial immersion ponds this year, spread across the city’s nodes:
| Node | Artificial Ponds |
|---|---|
| Nerul | 29 |
| Belapur | 22 |
| Turbhe | 21 |
| Vashi | 16 |
| Other nodes (Airoli, Kharghar, CBD Belapur zone, etc.) | Remainder of 170, distributed ward-wise |
For idols taller than six feet — mostly big sarvajanik mandal installations — NMMC has also designated 22 natural water bodies across the city, fitted with safety barricades, lighting, and sanitation support for the crowds these draw.
If you’re in Panvel, don’t assume NMMC’s ponds apply to you — Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) runs its own Ganeshotsav preparations independently. A few things worth knowing:
If you’re new to the area, our Panvel area guide has the general lay of the land.
Vashi — One of the busier stretches during visarjan, given Vashi’s density and creek-side geography. See our Vashi area guide — expect this node to move slower than usual on Sept 25.
Nerul & Seawoods — Has the highest artificial pond count (29) of any NMMC node. If you know Nerul Jetty from boat rides, note that jetty areas typically see beefed-up security during immersion days — not a place to combine with a leisure outing that week.
Belapur / CBD Belapur — 22 ponds here. Check our CBD Belapur area guide if you’re new to the node and need to know your way around before visarjan traffic changes.
Kharghar — Artificial ponds are set up within Kharghar’s sectors rather than at a single central point; check with your local mandal or ward office for the nearest one. See our Kharghar area guide for the lay of the land.
Airoli & other NMMC nodes — Split across the remaining pond count. Your ward office is the fastest way to confirm your nearest pond.
Is Panvel covered by NMMC’s visarjan arrangements?
No — Panvel has its own civic body, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC), which runs separate immersion arrangements independent of NMMC.
Why is NMMC/PMC pushing artificial ponds instead of natural water bodies?
A Bombay High Court directive requires idols up to six feet to be immersed only in artificial ponds, to reduce pollution in creeks and lakes from immersion material — both civic bodies follow this.
What is the red marking on POP idols in Panvel about?
PMC has made a red circular oil-paint marking on the rear of every POP idol mandatory this year, for identification during the immersion process.
What is Anant Chaturdashi?
It’s the tenth and final day of Ganeshotsav — September 25, 2026 — when the majority of remaining idols are immersed, marking the formal end of the festival.
