I’ll be honest — most articles about cycling in Navi Mumbai are written by people who have never pedalled past Vashi toll naka. This one is different. I cycle these roads regularly, from the Taloja side of Kharghar all the way to Vashi, and in this guide I’m sharing the exact routes I ride, what’s actually open right now, and what to avoid this monsoon.
If you’ve been thinking about getting on a cycle in Navi Mumbai, this is the only guide you need.

Mumbai cyclists fight traffic for every metre. In Navi Mumbai, we have something they envy: wide, planned roads, long uninterrupted stretches, mangroves and creek views, and hills rising right behind our sectors. Palm Beach Road alone is a 10-km, six-lane stretch running parallel to the creek from Vashi to CBD Belapur — and on early mornings, especially Sundays, it belongs to runners and cyclists more than cars.
Add the Kharghar hills, internal sector roads with tree cover, and quiet village-side routes near Owe, and you have one of the best cycling cities in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

This is the route I personally ride, and during monsoon it is genuinely one of the most beautiful stretches in the region.
The route: Start from the Taloja Jail Road side of Kharghar → ride towards Belpada → enter the CBD Belapur internal roads (shaded, calm, perfect warm-up) → join Palm Beach Road → cruise all the way to Vashi.
Distance: Roughly 18–20 km one way, depending on your starting sector.
Why I love it: The ride keeps changing character — village-side calm near Taloja, leafy internal roads in Belapur, and then the open creek-side run on Palm Beach. In monsoon, with grey skies and a cool breeze off the creek, it’s a different experience altogether.
One non-negotiable tip from experience: carry water and keep hydrating. Even in monsoon humidity, you lose more fluid than you realise on a 35–40 km round trip.
If you’re new to the area, our Kharghar area guide and Vashi area guide cover both ends of this ride in detail.

The gold-standard route, and for good reason. Cyclists use the full stretch in both directions — towards Vashi and towards CBD Belapur — with the creek and mangroves for company. Early mornings (before 8 AM) are best: cooler air, lighter traffic, and you’ll have plenty of fellow riders around, especially on Sundays.
Best for: road bikes and hybrids, speed and endurance training, beginners who want a flat, predictable ride.
If you own a mountain terrain bike, the areas in and around Kharghar hills are a real treat before the monsoon sets in — rough trails, greenery, and proper climbing practice minutes from the city.
⚠️ Current status (June 2026): The Kharghar–Turbhe tunnel work is in progress, which makes riding in this zone difficult right now. Combine that with monsoon-slick trails, and my honest advice is: skip the hill routes for now and come back post-monsoon. More on this below.
Here’s one most listicles miss because their writers have never been there: the road towards Owe Dam is a fun, scenic ride that only locals seem to know. Quieter than Palm Beach, greener than the sector roads, and a perfect short escape when you don’t want a full Vashi round trip.

Monsoon is honestly my favourite season to ride here — but it demands respect.
What’s great:
What to avoid:
Track the season’s progress with our Navi Mumbai Monsoon 2026 guide before planning longer rides.
You don’t have to ride alone. The Navi Mumbai Cycling Group is the active community here, with riders across the nodes organising regular group rides — a great way for beginners to learn routes, pacing, and basic maintenance from experienced cyclists.
And if running is more your speed (or you want to cross-train), Kharghar’s Sunday-morning running community is thriving — read about the Kharghar Daud Adda running group that meets at Central Park.
A note on rentals: You may read elsewhere about NMMC cycle rental kiosks at metro stations — as of now, these are not currently operational, so plan on your own cycle or a borrowed one.
Which is the best cycling route in Navi Mumbai?
Palm Beach Road is the most popular flat route. For a longer, more varied ride, the Kharghar–Belapur–Palm Beach–Vashi stretch (about 18–20 km one way) is the best in the region.
Can I cycle in Kharghar hills right now?
Not recommended at the moment — the Kharghar–Turbhe tunnel work is in progress and monsoon makes the trails slippery. Pre-monsoon and post-monsoon months are ideal for MTB rides there.
Is monsoon a good time to cycle in Navi Mumbai?
Yes, on the main roads — the Kharghar to Vashi ride is beautiful in the rains. Avoid hill trails and standing water, and carry water even in cool weather.
